Are You Pro or Anti Cupcakes?

I have a bit of an irrational problem with the cupcake trend hitting hipster-urban Seattle. In a recent discussion with Pinehurst blogger Renee, I went as far as to say that I would move out of Lake City if a cupcake shop moved to town. This might be a bit extreme. Don't get me wrong, I support small businesses. But it's nice that Lake City still has a bit of an edge. I like that I don't have to wear designer yoga clothes to my yoga class or worry about looking hip when I roll out of bed to have brunch at The Breakfast Club.

On a side note: Despite all of my negative feelings about cupcakes I would like to commend the owner of Cupcake Royale for her recent trip to the White House to advocate for health care reform.

Are you pro or anti cupcakes in Lake City?

Haven't Been To Many Cupcake Shops...
I don't have that strong of feelings about cupcakes either way. And don't remember when I was last at one. I'd rather have cupcake shops than Moneytrees and T-Mobile stores but I can also understand liking the feel of a neighborhood. Though if it was more of a general bakery (with fresh bread!) that also had cupcakes I would love it. No matter how hip and trendy it might seem.

Cupcake shops in Seattle all about The Trend
I think it would be great if Lake City had another bakery, that made a variety of baked goods.(Perfect place for a Panaderia!) I find the cupcake shops in the area, are not authentic with their recipes and really not being impressed with the quality.

Cupcakes Not A Problem for the Lake City Crowd
I think I am safe to state that cupcakes won't be overtaking our hood any time soon. I think relating it to designer yoga clothes is a small stretch but I see your point. I'm amazed that the top of Queen Anne doesn't have a pretty little cupcake shop, or do they?

Though they are pretty to look at and thier [Cupcake Roayl] marketing is charming I wonder weather cupcakes are necessary. Does it fill a needed niche? Or is it just a passing trend?

For the record Danaek you always look hip when you roll out of bed to go to the Breakfast Club. Espeically your hair...

But what about the kids...?
I maintain my stance that cupcake shops are loved my children everywhere. If 'hipster-urban' Seattleites happen to enjoy them too, then good for them. I personally prefer my deserts in the form of milkshakes and chocolate truffles, but to each her own.

Stop hatin' on the kids!

Just come to our neighborhood
Lake City isn't that far from Ravenna - and we're getting a Trophy Cupcakes mid-May (in the University Village). Lake City can keep its "edge" and still break down every now and then for a sugary treat in our neck of the woods. :) Just a thought.

nothing beats a good cupcake after ingesting a bunch of pot and oxycontin purchased in little beirut.

i would say a cupcake place should open next door to the headshop, but they already got a bakery there! now that's some business synergy.

I hate cupcakes and the people that love them...
ok, a little harsh, but I couldn't believe that another totally new shop was making it's way to belltown. Is there no end? I think it's a lot better than a check cashing joing ;) and honestly... if I didn't have such a male ego issue, I'd probably eat a lot more of em'

I, for one, am a great fan of the cupcake and would be deeelighted if a cupcake shop should displace one of the establishments on LCW. But I think that highly unlikely.

Without Cranium's, there's a big, gaping hole in our community. A bakery--with fresh baked bread, and maybe sandwiches (not Subway) and coffee is what we really, really need. Won't somebody step up? I promise to support you!

And a tacqueria. Why are there no tacos on Lake City Way?

Tacos please!
I totally agree that we need a tacqueria. Taco del Mar was dirty, but it was still tacos.
We do have Minoo ( http://www.lakecitylive.net/locations/united-states/washingt), but it's not your typical bakery. And the Bean City now has a walk up window and delivery service during the week. Hopefully they'll get their space customer ready soon. http://www.lakecitylive.net/2009/04/13/bean-city-coffee-deli

Looking for tacos?
Go see Eduardo (a Lake City local) at Mr. Villa's ( http://mrvilla.net/) at 8064 Lake City Way NE and and have the lengua and carnitas tacos. The best in town.

cupcakes OK; bakery better!
I am always pining for a place like Columbia City Bakery to arrive in Lake City. Baked goods, sandwiches, soup. That would be a cool thing for the old Cranium's space, no?

craniums
Gosh, yeah, it would be sweet if a cool bakery could move into Craniums old place. Man I sure hope that building falls into the right hands. Is there any easy way to find out what new construction is in the area? For instance, I notice a ton of construction on a building around Bill Pierre-land, and keep hoping it is for something awesome, but suspect it is just another car showroom-- still curious to know what new things are popping up around town...
