Great news!

I'm SO excited that El Norte finally got through all the legal red tape because this is just the type of restaurant that Lake City needs more of! I know I will definitely be there for Cinco de Mayo or whenever they open.

Welcome El Norte!
Lets all welcome a new business to Lake City. I know there was a lot of discussion about the liquor license, but Mr. Villa's in Maple Leaf is a well run establishment. I welcome a proprietor who knows how to run a great business and have hopes that El Norte will become another great local spot in the LC for neighbors to meet and hang out while enjoying a good drink or bite to eat. Plus, this is one of the small local businesses that everyone is waiting for, not another chain store/eattery.

It's not a restaurant...it's a bar...what a letdown
I stopped by yesterday excited to grab a menu at my new local restaurant for Cinco de Mayo only to find out that there is no menu and that they will not be offering one because it's a bar, not a restaurant. According to the bartender, who was very nice, they will only have bites of food like empenadas and such.
This is seriously depressing, especially after going to bat for them and contacting the liquor control board on their behalf. |

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all our supporters throughout North Seattle but especially to the Lake City residents who believed we could beat the odds and open a complementary establishment to our existing Mr. Villa Mexican Restaurant. Small, neighborhood centric businesses can only build success with the support of the community and we are fortunate to open our doors with an already established group of regulars. Over the next upcoming days and weeks you will see us grow our menu, install signs, add staff, fully plant our already fabulous deck dining area, extend our operating hours and install artwork (call to any artists in the neighborhood who are interested in showing).
While Mr. Villa is our full service family dining restaurant which opens for lunch and dinner everyday, El Norte is our 21+ laid back neighborhood bar. Our lounge features friendly service, small plate dining, import beers, tequilas, scotches & whiskeys and occasional live music. Food will be served at all times. Our hours of operation to start are: Monday - Wednesday: 4pm - 12 am Thursday & Friday: 4pm - 2am Saturday: 12pm - 2am Sunday: 12pm - 12am We look forward to seeing you there! |

Oops, I replied with the wrong message -- sorry.
LakeCityJay. El Norte Lounge will have a grand opening event within the month to thank all our supporters and showcase our full offering. If you had submitted correspondence in any form to the Liquor Board, we already have your contact information and you will receive an invitation. We would love the opportunity to present our robust menu for your examination at that time. I do apologize about the concept confusion -- we never intended El Norte to be an all ages location as we already offer this at Mr. Villa. Hopefully now we have something to offer to everyone. |

Kitchen open until 2am
LakeCityJay - There is a menu.
They were having equipment problems yesterday so they weren't able to offer any cooked food. I agree it's not a restaurant - as I had accidentally called it a few times. But I think the bartender's just trying to be clear that it will be a limited menu in comparison with Mr. Villa. I talked to one of the staff (maybe an owner?) and he sounded really excited that they would have their kitchen open until 2am so you could get late night food. |

Is it a restaurant or a bar?
In other words, is this a family friendly establishment? Where we can bring our kids to have a meal? Every bar in the city has to offer some type of food. That's nothing new.
