Our New Coffee Shop - Kaffeeklatsch!
By

So glad to see this addition to the neighborhood!
I saw the signs about a week ago and was really excited that Lake City was getting a coffee shop. We haven't had one since Cranium's left. I do kind of wish they could have moved into the old Cranium's as I hate to see that site sit empty with the lovely coffee pot art outside.

Love Kaffeeklatsch

As I type this I am drinking an Americano and eating a freshly baked blueberry scone from there. It is a wonderful place and I hope Lake City will give it's support to continue to keep them in business. We desperately needed a place like this in our neighborhood.

I'm super excited about this! Haven't we been complaining for years about the lack of a coffee shop where you can study & work. Lake City truly is up and coming! I love it. Can't wait to check it out.

Coffee house....
I dont want to sound like a homer, but there HAS been a coffee shop in Lake City WITHIN walking distance of ? for awhile now....just a few doors up the street....it's called BEAN CITY COFFEE! Tim roasts his own beans, always has friendly folks about, AND he delivers for FREE! I know the pastries are great at the new place, but when I was there the coffee was served luke warm, and the space it's in reminds one a bit too much of that "other" coffee spot that Lake City has 2 of....! Best of luck to them, but for me, honest people doing a good thing well wins every time!

I should have mentioned Bean City in my post. Bean City is a great walk-up coffee location. I'm excited that to have a place to walk to that I can sit down for an hour or two. There's definitely room in Lake City for both Bean City and Kaffeeklatsch

Bean City Coffee
Thank you for that! I read these posts and thought WTF, the new owners must be posting! Bean City Coffee is a friendly place with great coffee and they can even tell you where the coffee beans come from!!!!! No pretenses, just a friendly neighborhood place where ALL the neighbors are welcome. I have sat there with business people and homeless people and everyone respects each other. I have never heard the owner, Tim, diss any of the neighborhood business'. It's an amazing, warm, comfortable spot.

Great Place

Love Kaffeeklatsch! The coffee is excellent, the owners are fabulous, the food is delicious, and the business provides a much needed placed to gather. The Bean City is also much appreciated, but there is no where to really sit and stay. This business is stellar.

Contrary to the above assessment, this is not a Starbucks. It is a local business that we all should be invested in supporting because it is a great place to hang out, study, chat, and chill over coffee and treats. I am over the moon at the addition. There are so few places where people here can go and meet up.

Coffee
I stopped in today and the people are friendly but the coffee was luke warm. I went in with a party of three and I got my coffee and was just about finished with it when the second cup was ready and then it took just as long to get the third cup. They were aware enough to give us some free cookies because of how long it took, but we were there for the coffee and it was not a good experience. It was clean and the people were friendly so I suppose if you are just looking for a place to plant yourself with a computer and free wifi, you could put up with the bad coffee.

Bean City=nowhere to linger, but the coffee's stellar. Grab and go, in other words.
Kaffeeklatsch=you can sit and lollygag. The coffee's pretty good, though it does need to be hotter, i agree. The pastries are amazing. They're both friendly places, they could both use to be open later, as the 120th Starbucks has taken a turn for the worse lately, and i wish them both the best. |

Went on Saturday

The coffee was great and the blueberry pastry was out of this world! We will definitely be going back for our German pastry fix. They haven't even had their grand opening yet so I believe they are still working out the kinks with the coffee servers.
In regards to Bean City, where is that? The signs must be small because I have never noticed it while I noticed Kaffee Klatsch's signs about a week and half ago. I have to admit though that the name made me curious and hopeful for German foodstuffs! |

Bean City

...it's up by the QuickLane auto service, which used to be Safelite. It's an easy skip from the Post Office. I tend to run past there when I want to grab a cup and hit the bus for the final skip home. It's exceptionally good, in the same league as Herkimer; it's mostly walk-up.
I have no doubt Kaffeeklatsch will wise up on making the coffee better. It's still better than Starbucks, and the baked goods are, as i noted, their definite strong point. (And let's not forget Foodies, as i can walk over there, and their amazing quinoa bowls and good lattes. Phew.) |

Re: Bean City - I don't know what their hours are now, but I tried to get a cup on a weekend morning a couple times last year, and they weren't open. What kind of coffee shop isn't open on a weekend at 8?
He did happen to be there once doing a function and made me a cup - really nice guy - but not the type of staple coffee shop I'm looking for. Maybe hours have since expanded. If so, let me know. |

Awesome!

I tried one of the cinnamon rolls, it was amazing. The frosting was what really made it stand out, I'm not sure how it's made but I certainly think it should be sold seperately. I didn't have any problem with the coffee seemed grade A in flavor and temperature

Banana Bread...
...Yum.
Quality of ownership: Quite nice! Temp of coffee: fine. Quality of coffee: Eh. I'm partial to the Italian roasts so perhaps I'm being too hard on them. The sludge at the bottom could have been avoided however. I'll give 'em some time to work out the kinks before a final judgment. |

Welcome, Kaffeeklatsch!!
There is definitely room for more coffee in Lake City. And really, Kaffeeklatsch is so much more -- a bakery and cafe with fantastic sandwiches, breads, and specialty desserts unique to the neighborhood. I observed during my visit that the espresso beverages were served in a more European style manner, which I enjoyed as I typically have to order my beverages, "not too hot". My impression, however, is that the staff at Kaffeeklatsch is more than willing to accommodate any and all customer requests.
New businesses attract new consumers, which in turn help to keep all business within our neighborhood thriving. I look forward to having another option to buy in Lake City, gather with friends, and meet my neighbors over delicious food and beverages. |

I have to admit, "not too hot" is growing on me. I still can't say the names of any of the pastries, though.
But three visits, awesome all three times, that's no coincidence. |

I've been saying for a year or so that I wish we had a place in LC like the Columbia City Bakery -- and now we do. Thank you!! I'll be in this afternoon!

Thank you for your feedback everyone! It has been really nice to watch this conversation develop, and we are all very excited to be a part of the Lake City community. We are now no longer in our "testing" stage, as we had our grand opening on February 5th! The coffee should be hotter (unless you ask otherwise), and the pastries should be perfect now!
Again, thank you, and see you soon! |
