Wednesday (Jan. 9) meeting to discuss facility for veterans with mental illness, addiction

On Wednesday, January 9th, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. there will be a meeting at the Lake City Community Center where Seattle’s Department of Planning and Development will hold an open house for public comment and review of the Valor Apartments.

The proposed housing facility on 33rd Avenue NE is intended to house veterans with a dual diagnosis of mental illness and drug addiction.

The facility has some in Lake City concerned about concentrating people with substance abuse problems and mental illness in an area that is already housing vulnerable populations.

Here is a letter to Seattle City Councilmembers written by a member of Douglas Park Cooperative, one of the community groups that have highlighted concerns about the facility. The letter includes maps and information arguing against the proposal.

All are invited to the Wednesday meeting to share comments with planning officials about the proposed facility.

    Hi there,
Thanks for posting this. I wasn’t unable to make this meeting; is there anyone who did who can give a wrap-up or feedback?
