A bit of chaos came to Lake City on Thursday evening.
A high-speed car chase sped dangerously through Lake City after a robbery in the Ravenna neighborhood. The chase ended with two suspects being captured about 5:30 on NE 130th Street and 25th Ave. NE and 26th Ave NE.
An alert neighbor that was watching the events unfold on the Seattle Police Department’s Twitter feed in an exchange with Ravenna Blog, happened to be on the phone with his wife when a bleeding man wandered into their yard. She told him about the man in their yard and the husband, who was not home, immediately told her to call the police when he realized via Twitter that the chase was in his neighborhood. The woman gave a description of the bleeding man to a dispatcher and then officers with guns drawn quickly apprehended the man who was at that point casually walking down the street on his cell phone. Other neighbors that saw the men flee the car also were able to identify them.
During the chase the driver of the stolen car sped northbound along the sidewalk in front of Kaffeekaltsch at about 50 miles-per-hour, according to witnesses. The car barely squeezed through a space on the sidewalk between the building and a nearby fire hydrant. Damage on the building shows where the red car struck Kaffeeklatsch as it sped past, between the building and hydrant. Fortunately there we no pedestrians on the sidewalk at the time.
The car also drove about 90 miles per hour on Sand Point Way NE, said a responding officer.
News helicopters followed the chase overhead as the suspects fled in the car, which was later determined to be stolen.
The chase started about 4:50 after the men entered the back door of a Thai restaurant in the 2300 block of NE 65th Street and stole an employees backpack full of personal items. Employees of the restaurant chased the men who then fled in the stolen car.
SPD later posted on their blotter that both suspects, who appeared to be in their 20′s, were transported to the Robbery Office where they were interviewed by detectives.
SPD also posted, “Thankfully, nobody was injured throughout the incident
