The city's Office of Emergency Management offers free training to help prepare Seattle citizens for emergency situations through the Seattle Neighborhoods Actively Prepare (SNAP) program. As part of the SNAP program, the Office of Emergency Management offers the following skills classes: Light Urban Search and Rescue for Community Members, Basic and Disaster First Aid Response, and Fire Extinguisher and Utility Control. All the classes are free and are held at the Brig in Magnuson Park. I've had the opportunity to take the first aid and fire extinguisher classes. Both were informative, fun, and comprehensive. I highly recommend them - its a great way to spend a Saturday with neighbors, friends, or family.
